SOS BOOK Chapter 15: Steps to self-discovery.



SELF-DISCOVERY IS A PERSONAL INNER JOURNEY.

The process of self-discovery is only as difficult as we make it! We ourselves determine the rate & ease of our progress. It depends on our individual capacity to cope with the changes required. It depends on how open we are to new ways of seeing things. It depends on our resistance to change.


Our ego’s resistance to this process is what makes it difficult. Being loving & compassionate to ourselves will really help. The easiest way is just to accept what is unfolding at every moment. We learn to accept ‘what is’ but not in a self-defeatist way. We then strive to do better! But to do that properly we must process the associated emotions. We must eventually face our ego and its fears.


This whole process is simple, but not always easy to do! That’s because our ego and past mental conditioning tends to get in the way. So, recognizing and overcoming that resistance is important. That's what we really have to face!


RAISE YOUR AWARENESS & CONSCIOUSNESS.

This inner path involves raising our level of objective awareness. This simply means being more aware of our thoughts, feelings & emotions! We become an impartial & objective observer. Maintaining this raised awareness is the key to the whole process.


We raise our level of consciousness by raising our awareness and our vibe. The aim is a vibe of joy, inner-peace and loving kindness. We aim to maintain this all along our path. That's what we become mindful of doing! Doing that becomes our journey! It's as simple or as complicated as that. It's our choice.

THERE IS A SIMPLE METHOD OF SELF-DISCOVERY.

What does a personal inner journey involve? In essence, it’s just subtly changing the way we interact with our thoughts. We start by simply observing our thoughts. We will shortly present a brief outline of what we actually do.


But don't get overwhelmed by the thought of this. It might seem so foreign at this stage. We will break this up into small steps and explain this further. Eventually you will realize how simple and natural this process is. It's just the terminology or the unfamiliar words that can seem threatening.


Perhaps start by slowly reading the list of 7 steps provided below. Don't rush this. Try to pause briefly after each step to contemplate the meaning:


THE STEPS TO SELF-DISCOVERY:


1. START an inner journey simply by looking within.

2. PRACTISE stilling your mind and raising your awareness.

3. Use JOY to guide your new direction in life.

4. IMAGINE and visualize your desired outcomes.

5. ACCEPT yourself and RAISE your VIBE.

6. Look for SYNCHRONICITY in every encounter.

7. TUNE-IN for more guidance from within.


This is a brief outline of what we can learn to do. Or more correctly, what we can re-learn to do. It's already an inherent part of ourselves. The underlying mechanism for this is inbuilt in us. It’s a natural process and it will feel right. It's part of the grand legacy of being human. We just need to reactivate this process again. Most of it will come back quickly. It can become second nature to us. Then we will realize it’s our primary or true nature.


THE PROCESS IS AS EASY OR HARD AS YOU WISH.

The process is as simple or as complicated as you choose to view it. We can become overwhelmed and say that it’s ‘all too hard’. Or we could say that it's ‘all too easy’ and that this process could never work. Or we could simply try one small step at a time.

It doesn’t matter if it’s easy or hard. If we engage in this process, to the best of our ability, that will be more than enough to succeed! START AN INNER JOURNEY BY LOOKING WITHIN.

We start by relaxing and quieting our mind. That’s so we can better observe our thoughts. We make time for some personal ‘time-out’ and quiet contemplation. We learn to quietly observe our thoughts and feelings from a neutral perspective! We simply observe what is occurring, without generating any reaction or narrative.


Some might call this technique ‘mindfulness’. We can use quiet contemplation or this simple meditation exercise to start this process. Or we could even do this by sitting quietly in nature. This contemplation starts our inner journey.


PRACTICE STILLING YOUR MIND.

We continue to practice slowing our mind and becoming more aware of the thoughts that arise. We practice maintaining this quiet, calm, but alert state of awareness. We just watch our thoughts without reacting to them. This becomes our preferred mental state. It becomes our firm foundation for tackling any challenges ahead. We then make life choices based on whether they will promote this state of ‘inner peace’.

USE JOY TO GUIDE YOUR NEW DIRECTION IN LIFE.

What direction or path do we take? We simply follow our passion & our joy. We engage with activities that uplift us and bring us joy. That helps promote a higher vibration. We aim to keep our ‘mind chatter’ and any mental narrative to a minimum. We don't engage with negative thoughts or promote their narrative. This further helps raise our vibration and promotes our emotional & physical wellbeing.

IMAGINE & VISUALIZE YOUR DESIRED OUTCOMES.

How do we quickly manifest what we want? We simply immerse ourselves in the true feeling of the experience that we really want. We start by vividly imagining and feeling what it would all be like! Then we gently hold that expectation and that vibe. We should never dwell on our doubts or fears! That just manifests those fears instead.


Then we generate matching positive vibrations in our current daily life. That triggers the positive manifestation process. Even unrelated thoughts and activities that have a similar high vibe will work. Maintaining a positive vibe is how we quickly manifest our ‘preferred reality’. We hold a high vibe that matches what we want. That helps our deep desires to manifest very quickly.
