SOS BOOK Chapter 72: Strategy #8. Activate the right attitude.

BUILD A CALM ATTITUDE OF INTROSPECTION.

We start our mind training with regular time out for quiet contemplation. We can practice mindfulness and simple meditation exercises. We learn how to make an inner connection. This takes quiet time & practice. We learn to tap into our inner knowing for more guidance. A calm, patient attitude of introspection is needed to recognize and change your bad habits.

…Are you building a regular practice of quiet time?

CULTIVATE COMPASSION & GRATITUDE!

On an inner journey, we become more compassionate and loving towards ourselves and eventually to all others. This requires an attitude of loving kindness. We learn to forgive ourselves and others for perceived faults & misdemeanors. We become more grateful. We stop judging and controlling ourselves and others. We practise being non-reactive and neutral. We become an impartial & objective observer.

…Are you being compassionate and loving to yourself and others?

HAVING THE RIGHT ATTITUDE IS CENTRAL.

To succeed in inner transformation, we need all the ability, capacity & resilience we can muster. We must especially guard against self-sabotage. Remember, our ego doesn’t play by the rules. Our ego might even take us to the point of destruction, just to take back control! Having the right attitude is central to overcoming all this. Our highest qualities will be required. This challenge will bring out the best in us. It will be a chance for us to shine!

…Can you see that overcoming your ego is a rewarding challenge?

THE RIGHT ATTITUDE GIVES A WINNING EDGE.

In our previous racing car analogy, all finalists are highly capable. But the regular winners have a fine margin of difference! The biggest difference is personal attitude. Winners have faith in the process that brought them to where they are now, the final race. They have trust in their own intuitive ability! They can tap into their highest capacity and stay in the now moment. That ‘right attitude’ is what determines success at the highest level of any endeavor.

…Can you see now how important the right attitude is?

ASSESS THE ATTITUDE OF YOUR ROLE MODEL.

When learning from role models, we should observe their attitude, not just their actions. We can observe their level of drive & commitment. Admire their determination & resilience. Notice their attention to detail & commitment to practice. These characteristics are part of their winning attitude. In personal development, our role models would be somewhat different from business or sports. We might seek the wisdom of top masters & spiritual teachers. We could even ask for their advice or help. But we should avoid becoming dependent on any guru, group, organization or philosophy.

…Who are your role models for personal development?

THE RIGHT ATTITUDE HELPS US FROM DAY ONE.

We could try to embrace this ‘right attitude’ from day one. We would live our life from these higher principles. We could imagine ourselves living ‘this attitude’ in everything we do! This makes us increasingly confident of our ability to grow & transform. With both the ‘car race’ analogy and our inner transformation, the majority of the work occurs in the mind. This includes adequate preparation & mind training. We rehearse and practice until it all becomes automatic & second nature.

VISUALIZE SUCCESS & IMAGINE HOW IT FEELS.

We can even visualize our success in every detail and imagine what it would feel like! In the racing analogy we would imagine the joy of winning our race, the team prize and perhaps the championship trophy for the season. In personal transformation, we imagine the joy, fulfillment & inner peace of living this way. Then we stop the visualization but keep holding this high vibe.

…Have you tried imagining a life of joy and inner peace?

OUR TRANSFORMATION IS A CHANGE IN ATTITUDE.

In personal transformation, the ‘competition event’ or ‘challenge’ occurs within our mind. It’s predominantly an internal battle! We are competing against our ego and our thought-based mind! The ego’s power and its entire existence depends on it winning or maintaining control. There will be no greater battle or foe to overcome! By overcoming these inner challenges, we further transform ourselves. We take it to the next level!

THE RIGHT ATTITUDE INSPIRES GREATER HEIGHTS.

We have an inner yearning for personal transformation. This inner need comes from the depth of our being. We achieve this goal by overcoming our ego-mind. Through this personal transformation, we find true meaning & purpose in our life. Finally we merge with this true inner self. We become the expression of what we already are deep inside. This is all a natural process that happens spontaneously if we just allow it. We just accept or ‘surrender’ to the process. That's how we finally overcome our ego and our mental barriers.

…Do you sense your inner yearning for personal transformation?

THE RIGHT ATTITUDE OVERCOMES LIMITATIONS.

Only by utilizing the full depth of our being can we overcome all obstacles. We can then encompass our true role & life purpose. This gives us the winning edge. This allows us to rise to even greater heights. There is an even further step. By merging with our higher self, we go even further than we ever have before. We can then surpass all prior achievements. We do this by adding our own unique perspective and our own dreams. This unlocks additional inner resources that power us to the highest levels.

AVOID THE EGO TRAP OF ‘WINNING’.

In personal transformation we must be careful not to think of success as ‘winning’ or being superior. That will just fuel the ego. The ego will try to claim credit for this success. In doing so, it takes back control. That is another trap! So, the ‘right attitude’ for personal development includes being grateful & humble. We also dedicate our new abilities to the benefit of others. We are in service to the greater good. These attitudes keep the ego at bay. With the right attitude, we can be confident that we will succeed on our journey. This attitude will inspire us to train and practise. Our quest starts the moment that we commit to internally changing ourselves. It can take years to gather all the components of this. So, the sooner we start this process the better!

PATIENCE, PERSISTENCE & RESILIENCE ARE KEY.

Our inner mental transformation still occurs within a physical body. The biological brain needs time to physically re-prioritize, rewire and re-balance. This restructure is powered by practical training. So be patient, persistent & resilient. We must allow for setbacks or delays. That's all part of the process. We will need time to hone our physical abilities and engage our full capacity. That’s how to achieve the winning margin!

…Are you giving yourself enough training time for your brain to rewire?

THE RIGHT ATTITUDE REFRAMES OUR THINKING.

This whole transformational process is modulated by a small difference in attitude. We could think of this process as reframing our thinking. Instead of using our ego and thought-based processes, we instead use awareness & inner knowing. This new attitude changes our perception and shifts our reality. This new mode of perceiving & responding becomes incorporated within us. This different state then manifests a different external reality. This is how we manifest the new experiences and destiny we seek.

…Can you see the connection between your attitudes and outcomes?

REFRAME SETBACKS INTO OPPORTUNITIES.

With a new attitude, setbacks can be reframed into opportunities and exciting new challenges. Our life becomes our training ground. In our mind, we practice overcoming our limitations. We overcome the ego-mind in all its hidden guises. We could see this challenge as an exciting adventure or quest. But can we go even further? Is there a way to increase efficiency and heighten our experience? Is there a way to maximize every moment? This could potentially be very valuable. We will discuss this next.
