WE NUMB OUR REALITY BY DETUNING FROM IT.
What else could be holding back our personal growth? Perhaps we’re trapped in a mild trance and don't even realize. This is like being in a mild dream-like hypnotic state. It can be hard to spot, so this will likely need some further explanation…
In this mild trance state, we aren’t asleep, but we aren’t fully awake either. We are not fully aware of what's going on. This pleasantly detached mental state can be rather tempting. Sometimes we find ourselves being drawn into this detuned state. It is not reality! It's a mild illusion instead.
This dreamy state can provide a temporary mental escape. It allows us to detune from our harsh & brutal world! This can briefly ease our frustration or boredom. We can choose to spend much of our life in this way. In fact, we might think it's quite acceptable.
LIVING IN A TRANCE HAS MANY NEGATIVES.
Living in a hypnotic state however comes at a high cost! When we are in a mild trance state, we are not fully in control. The awareness of our reality is muted. There is less clarity and discernment available to us. We aren’t able to tune-in to our emotions because they are numbed too. The guidance systems from our higher self and inner knowing are also impaired.
In this trance-like state we have unknowingly given up our autonomy & sovereignty. We are no longer our authentic self. Instead, we are living in a detuned state of experience!
RECOGNIZE THE WARNING SIGNS OF TRANCE.
How do we recognize if we are living in such a trance state? It feels like we are detuned and not fully in control. This state of unhealthy detachment can be very subtle! So, let’s look at this more closely.
The first sign of being detuned might be that our experience feels unreal or dream-like. It feels like we are detached from the actual experience, but not in a beneficial way. We lack clarity and are not fully engaged with what's going on. We might even feel ‘spaced out’ or mildly delirious.
Sometimes, we can still feel comfortable with that level of dissociation! It can feel mildly euphoric, which is why it’s so tempting. This is an easy escape from reality. But remember it is only an illusory state! It's not our true reality.
…Have you experienced this trance-like state? Do you go there often?
TRANCE FEELS LIKE BEING IN A B-GRADE MOVIE.
In a trance state, our life seems mildly fake or synthetic, like we’re living in a fantasy world. We can feel like a passive bystander, not an active player. It’s as if someone else is directing our life script and we are just play-acting. It can feel like we are living in a B-grade movie. It’s not that interesting, but just a pleasant distraction.
When stuck in a trance, life can feel predetermined and so it doesn’t engage us as much. In this semi-detached state we feel less responsible for what happens. Therefore, we are less fearful. This state is mildly pleasant and not too demanding. We might even feel we can’t escape from this trance. But then again, we don’t really want to, because it feels quite good!
WHY DO WE USE TRANCE STATES SO OFTEN?
Most of us utilize this state of mild dissociation at times. But why is this dreamy mental state used by so many people and so often? We feel the need to escape from the challenges & dissatisfaction of our current reality.
The trance state numbs our senses and emotions. So, we become less fearful. Trance can be used to avoid both overwhelm & apathy. For all these reasons, living in trance is very tempting! That’s why we use it so often.
…Why do you use a trance-like state in your life?
A TRANCE STATE IS AN ESCAPE FROM REALITY.
This mildly hypnotic state becomes a means of avoidance or denial. It delays us from facing tough issues and making difficult decisions. We put off confronting our dissatisfaction or our boredom. In this state, we don’t feel the need to do anything about it!
We even use the trance state to avoid processing difficult emotions. These emotions don’t reach our consciousness to be processed & cleared. This dissociative state puts our personal development and our life purpose on hold!
In this mild hypnotic state, we also become more suggestible and easily led. We don't question or analyze external issues objectively. We also lose access to our inner guidance systems. This includes our emotional guidance system, our intuition, and our deep inner knowing. So, our discernment is less effective.
TRANCE IS AN INTERNAL TRANQUILIZER.
This hypnotic state may have its origins as a subconscious survival strategy. Trance acts like a self-induced tranquilizer or sedative. But instead of taking drugs, this effect is produced by the brain itself.
A trance state can become addictive, similar to chemical sedatives & painkillers. We can become dependent on this pleasant, detached feeling. Some people become reliant on this state and it’s a habit we need to break!
Remember, the temporary reprieve of this trance-state does not resolve the problem or heal anything. It only dulls our awareness of it and our discomfort. We can’t solve our problems or heal ourselves if we are detuned, numb & opting out!
