What To Do When Stretch Marks Occur

by Maia Pells

Stretch marks can plague anyone. In most cases, it is the women, though, who often check to see if they have stretch marks so that they can treat and get rid of them early on. This is especially true for women who have given birth to babies. They will want to get rid of the stretch marks that have occurred from the stretching of skin during pregnancy. But in general, people who do have them do not really known what to do when stretch marks occur. This is the reason why most people will not do anything to stop them from forming.

What Are Stretch Marks?

For dermatologists, striae is the more common name for the condition. They are actually scars but they are not physical scars, meaning they are not found on the epidermis of the skin. They are found just underneath in the area known as the dermis.

Gaining Weight - When the body experiences a sudden change in growth, like when someone gains weight, the skin also stretches. The problem is that if the skin is not healthy enough, the dermis will tear and this is essentially how the stretch mark starts to form. The final result of a stretch mark is a silvery line and these lines are found in places where the skin has stretched. The usually areas are the stomach, thighs, arms, and buttocks.

What To Do

Early Detection - When stretch marks occur, it is ideal that you detect them first. You will not feel a stretch mark occur and so it is up to you to inspect your body to see if there are any newly formed stretch marks. These are easily identifiable as they look like reddened or purple lines. This means that the dermis has newly torn and that area is well on its way to developing stretch marks.

Prevention - You can actually prevent the stretch mark from worsening and becoming harder to remove. One way to do this is to make sure that you drink a lot of water (about 8 glasses minimum a day) and also make sure to exercise a little. The water is to hydrate the body and keep the skin as elastic as possible. The exercise is to get your blood flowing and also to get rid of any fats that cause your skin to stretch. You might also want to change your diet into something that is rich in essential fats such as those found in fish.

Other Options - If you have stretch marks that you may have overlooked before and still want to get rid of them, there are surgical and medical procedures that you can choose from. One way is to use medicated creams.

Laser Surgery Treatment - You also have the option of getting laser surgery to have the lines removed permanently. This is a pricey option but at least you won’t have to worry about the stretch marks forming again. These are all measures that you can try out when stretch marks occur around your body. Otherwise, keeping a healthy body and maintaining a good diet and exercise routine should help prevent stretch marks from ever forming in the first place.

For Chronic Back Pain try Neurontin (Gabapentin)

by Jackson Beartoes

For chronic back pain, Neurontin (Gabapentin) will work for most people.

Neurontin is excreted primarily through the kidneys in the body. It is not excreted through the liver like most other things. It has been used in pediatric patients from the ages 3-12 for therapy treatment of partial seizures.

In the 1990’s, the sale of Neurontin was approved as treatment for epileptic seizures. The FDA has approved this to treat epilepsy only when used with another drug for shingles pain. The recommended dosage is 3 times a day.

Gabapentin is indicated for the management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. This medicine does not interact with other seizure medicines, so it can be used as an add on. It has not been approved to treat severe RLS (restless leg syndrome).

This is one of the best selling drugs in the world. Neurontin is also expensive for the treatment of chronic back pain. The average cost for 3200/mg/day can run around $400/month. It is an expensive drug to treat pain, but the effects are very good.

You can find Neurontin in breast milk which is the first oral medication approved by the FDA. The medicine has been used for off label uses and was prescribed for the medical condition epilepsy. One of the biggest selling points is that it has few side effects.

Neurontin does not produce any active or inactive metabolites and is not metabolized by the body. It can be taken with or without food orally. Neurontin is good for the nerve damage from chronic back pain and should not be used as pain management.

Pfizer is the manufacturer and this is its best selling drug. It is popular too. It is one of the 50 most prescribed medicines in the United States in 2003.

Neurontin is well tolerated, has relatively mild side effects and also opasses through the body unmetabolized. Therefore, is often one of the first drugs prescribed.

Popular Fabrications In Alcohol Addiction Debunked

by Chris Channing

Alcoholism is an affliction that strikes thousands each year- but getting the truth in alcoholism myths can help safeguard against the fact that alcoholism can be so life threatening. Knowing what to believe in can keep consumers safe from alcoholism fabrications, and educate them on the real dangers.

The most common myth is that the average alcoholic is someone that just can’t get enough of the “good times.” While that might just certainly be true in some cases, addicts actually have many different influences in becoming an addict. This can even be hereditary- so not everyone has an immunity to the prospect of alcoholism that others do indeed have.

It’s tough to imagine a life without alcohol after abusing it for many years. This might be the reason why many myths say that after one exhibits self control and sobriety responsibly, they can go back to moderate drinking. In reality, alcoholism can be chronic in this will just ruin any progress that was previously made, and the disease will most likely return.

It is also common among those who are against recovery treatment to claim that treatment never works, since so many failed recovered alcoholics exist. While this may be true in some cases, the road to sobriety and success is a long one. Not everyone can get there on their first try, but everyone can get there if they stay persistent and continue to push themselves to strive for long term sobriety. Over a long enough time span, this diligence pays off in the form of a successful recovery.

Other myths state that getting over an alcohol addiction is just a matter of being confident and having willpower. In reality, the body can create a physical dependency on alcohol that will create terrible withdrawal symptoms should an alcoholic ever try to detoxify themselves. This often requires the help of a medical professional or facility, as this process can even be life threatening.

As a final note, many myths claim that technology has reached a plateau in the sense that there haven’t been many breakthroughs recently in the recovery industry. It may be true that no major breakthroughs have made the process a one step scenario, but advances in drugs and therapy have indeed made the likelihood of recovery much better over the decades. Technology continues to improve everyday, and it’s only a matter of time before even simpler measures are found.

In Conclusion

The effects of alcohol are vast, so it is no surprise that so many myths have been created. Debunking the myths becomes important as some of the myths may hinder the recovery process, while still other myths will even stop recovery dead in its tracks. To get real answers, it’s best to listen to a doctor rather than friends or family members, as they have the real facts on alcoholism that gossip just can’t compete with.

Natural Piles Cure

by Steff Ross

Piles are a painful condition caused by swelling of the veins in the anus. Often these veins they will bleed. Blood that is present on the stool, on the toilet paper is a sign of piles. Itching, burning, pain, and swelling are also symptoms of piles and while they are not usually serious they can be painful.

Although piles are very uncomfortable they are seldom serious and will heal on their own. Rarely piles will cause more serious complications such as gastrointestinal bleeding, hemorrhaging, or anemia. In these cases your only option is to consult a doctor but if treated early while the right diet changes piles rarely become serious.

There are many medications you can use as a piles cure. These are medicated wipes, pads, and creams. These remedies will usually help with the symptoms of swelling, and itching. These over the counter treatments are usually best suited for treating the symptoms of external piles.

Because piles are usually caused by straining on a bowel movement, adding more fiber to your diet to produce softer stools is the best type of piles treatment. Eliminating processed foods and increasing your intake of fresh vegetables and fruit is a smart thing to do. Many people’s diets are lacking these important elements and the large amount of processed foods, fats, and other unhealthy elements. Foods that are high in fiber will help you to produce softer stools. Other foods such as prunes and prune juice will also help.

Sometimes diet change alone is not enough to cure piles, especially if they are hereditary or you naturally produce hard stools. In this case over the counter stool softeners can help to soften stools and will allow piles to heal. Laxatives should be avoided, unless they are recommended by your doctor because they can often irritate the lining of the bowels and actually worsen piles.

Very rare cases of piles will require medical intervention such as surgery to remove, and usually only external piles require this type of intervention. Even though piles are usually not serious, if your symptoms persist for more than a few weeks, you should consult a doctor.
